Veterinary - Research Databases: Accessing resources in CABI Digital Library

Accessing resources in CABI Digital Library

There are many collections within the CABI Digital Library. You have access to CAB Abstracts, Global Health, VetMed Resource, Animal Behaviour and Welfare Cases, and more. Be sure to access content through the Library's database links so all available content will be accessible.

Verify that you are authenticated as a user by checking the ‘Authenticated via’ message in the header of the page.

It is important to note that journal articles or book chapters to which the Veterinary Medicine Library subscribes may not always show as accessible because this database is a subscription of the LSU Main Library. If you are unable to access content, it is recommended to check the Library Catalog.

When a search has been performed, at the top of the results list you will see three tab options:  Abstract records, Articles/Chapters, Books/Journals.

  • The Abstract records tab shows results of all abstract records available in the CABI Digital Library database regardless of publisher.
  • The Articles/Chapters tab shows results for all articles and chapters published by CABI.
  • The Books/Journals tab shows all books and journals published by CABI

Under Item Type at the left side of the page, you can specify the type of resource(s) to which you would like to narrow your results. To the right of each item type listed is the number of that type of resource in the results list.

To check full access to the content of the citation displayed in the abstract record, click on the title of the record.

If the citation is to a journal article, click the URL link inside the record. If access is available through LSU, it should resolve to display the article. If access is not available, you can request an interlibrary loan for the article.

If the citation is for a book, the book information will be displayed underneath the title. Select the Open URL button to see if access is available.

If the page leads to a Full Text Finder page shown below, select the link "Search the LSU Catalog for Books". If the resource is available through LSU, you will find the resource in the Catalog.

If neither LSU Libraries nor the Vet Med Library own the resource in question, use the link Request this item through interlibrary loan option to obtain the resource.

If you see a citation with a red locked padlock icon and a green "Access Options" link, then the resource is not available.
