Cited reference search in Web of Science

The cited reference search option in Web of Science offers the most complete citation results, as the results include variants. Search for records that have cited a published work, and discover how a known idea or innovation has been confirmed, applied, improved, extended, or corrected. Find out who’s citing your research and the impact your work is having on other researchers in the world.

1. To begin a cited reference search, click the cited reference search link within the main Documents tab on the Web of Science homepage.

2. Using the dropdown menu, select the Cited Field in which you wish to search. For a cited work, enter as much search information for a work as you have.

3. Within the cited reference results, the article that is returned in regular Web of Science searches appears with a hyperlinked title and article identifier. Only the citation count for variant forms of the article are hyperlinked in the variant article results. When you complete a cited reference search, be aware that the count in the Citing Articles column is not limited by your institution's subscription. However, your access to records in the product is limited by your institution's subscription.

4. To view citing articles, select the box next to the article variants you wish to view or click the Select all button at the top to select all results, then click finish search.

5. You can export the results table by clicking the Export Table link next to the finish search button.
