Veterinary - EndNote 20 / 21: Cite While You Write

Cite While You Write in MS Word

EndNote’s Cite While You Write feature allows you to use your EndNote references to insert citations in a Microsoft Word document while automatically creating a bibliography from the inserted citations. You can also change the format of your citations and bibliography.

'Cite While You Write' in MS Word

  • Open both your EndNote Library and your paper in Microsoft Word
  • In your Word document, make sure the 'EndNote' tab is selected at the top of the ribbon

  • Place cursor in location of desired citation --> click on ‘Insert Citations’ symbol  --> select desired citations --> select citation style from drop-down menu
  • To edit and manage any citations, click the 'Edit & Manage Citation(s)' tab , rather than deleting or editing citations within the Microsoft Word document (otherwise, discrepancies between Word and EndNote will appear)
