How to use this guide

This Guide is meant to help you with researching your chosen topic for Assignments 1 and 2.

How to Use the Guide:
  • The tabs at the top of the guide will take you to different screens, called 'pages.'   To move from page to page, simply click on the tabs.
  • On each page, there will be information on the papers or lists of sources to get you started in learning more about your topic.  The sources include books, e-books, databases and websites.  Some of these sources will be available in print only or online only.  Some contain images with very little textual information, others will be largely text with some illustrations.
  • Some of the pages will have tabbed boxes to separate different types of sources.  For example, the Finding Print Sources page's Books box has tabs for books on ancient Egyptian art, Mesopotamian art, Greek art, etc.  You can click on the tabs to view these lists.
  • The pages for Paper 2 will be available after Assignment 1's due date has passed.
  • The practice visual literacy survey can be found here:  Survey
Some things to be aware of:
  • Ancient art often falls under the subject of Archeology or Antiquities.  Therefore, some of the books listed in this guide are located in the history or archeology sections of the library.
  • Please note that the books, links etc. that are listed are not the only sources on a particular subject that the library has for you to use.  There are others available to you.
  • If you need a refresher on how to start your research, please refer to  these  tutorials:  https://guides.lib.lsu.edu/tutorials
  • If you aren't used to writing about works of art, you might want to consult the following title:
