The Perseus Project

The Perseus Digital Library Project contains a wide range of primary and secondary materials, including ancient texts and information on artifacts, sculpture, coins and architecture.

To search the Perseus Catalog of ancient texts, click on the Perseus Catalog link in the gray bar at the top of the website.  Be aware that some of these texts will be in languages other than English.

To browse the Greek and Roman documents collection, click Greek and Roman Materials.  You can also try a search using the search box in the upper right hand corner of the website, which allows you to use All Search Options to limit by language, all of the words, exact phrase and the collection of materials you are most interested in.

Example:  try a search for 'war' and 'titans.'  You will retrieve results from the writings of Apollodorus, Hesiod, Pausanias, and Pindar referring to Zeus' war with the Titans.

For artifacts and images, click on Art & Archaeology Artifact Browser, directly under the Greek and Roman Materials.  There will be separate links for

  • building
  • coin
  • gem
  • sculpture
  • site
  • vase

Additional Web Resources

Art History Resources on the Web is a huge encyclopedic Internet source index, maintained by Professor Emeritus Christopher Witcombe.  It is divided into historical periods, art styles and media.

To access the Site Index, click on the link with the little Woman of Willendorf sculpture on it.

There is a separate listing for Ancient Greek Art and Ancient Roman Art.
