About the SEC
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is mainly responsible for implementing a series of regulatory initiatives required under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.
The "mission of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is to protect investors, maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation."
EDGAR
EDGAR is the Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval system that automatically collects, validates , indexes, accepts and forwards submissions by companies and others required by law to file forms with the SEC.
You can research public companies, read 10-K (annual) and 10-Q (quarterly) and other reports. Not all documents filed with the SEC are available on EDGAR.
