The Problem with Apu

As part of Media Literacy Week, LSU Libraries will host a film screening of "The Problem with Apu" on Wednesday, November 7 at 4:30 p.m. in Hill Memorial Library Lecture Hall. A panel discussion about media representation and stereotypes will follow. Snacks will be provided.

"The Problem with Apu," a feature length comedic documentary from truTV was created by and stars comedian Hari Kondabolu as he examines the East Indian convenience store owner Apu on the long-running TV series "The Simpsons.” truTV, part of Turner, a WarnerMedia company, is the home for original, creator-driven comedy series with a distinct point of view.

The panel includes:

  • Asiya Alam, assistant professor with the Department of History
  • Joni Butcher, senior instructor with the Department of Communication Studies
  • Quincy Hodges, doctoral candidate with the Manship School of Mass Communication
