Information Literacy for Agriculture: Examining Authority and Evaluating Sources

Use this guide to help understand Information Literacy in Agriculture.

Why Evaluate?

The world is full of information. Some of it is trustworthy, relevant, and useful, and some of it isn't. Figuring out what information to use and what to ignore can be difficult.

How do you make decisions about what information to trust when you're buying a laptop? Choosing what movie to see? Deciding whether you need to go to the doctor for those symptoms you have? Any time you determine what information to use in decision-making, you are evaluating information.

You use the same evaluation skills to decide what information from friends and family to trust as you do when you decide what sources to use in your research paper.
